Citizenship is a concern when the children of LGBTQ parents are born overseas. This is especially prominent in the case of surrogacy.

Children born overseas to Singaporean parents can apply for Singapore citizenship. The process takes about 1 year. In the meantime, the child can remain in Singapore on a dependant pass or permanent resident pass.

It is also important to note that birth of a child in Singapore to non-Singaporeans does not automatically grant the child Singapore citizenship. Therefore if the biological mother of the child is not Singapore, this is something to take note of as she will have to apply for a dependent pass or permanent residence for the child.
